Helen J. Kane

Helen (Gregory) Kane, 97, a resident of Highland Health Care Center, Cheshire, CT since 2001, passed peacefully Nov. 11, 2010 surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of the late James P. Kane(Katsegianes). Mrs. Kane was born June 22, 1913 in New York City, the daughter of the late Charles and Thecla Gregory. She was an original member and founder, along with her late husband, of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge, formerly 9 Farview Ave., Danbury, CT. She was a past member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Daughters of Penelope and the Order of the Eastern Star of the Masons. Mrs. Kane and her late husband for many years owned and operated  the former Hollywood CafĂ© in Brewster, NY; also the former Court Restaurant, Carmel, NY and Kentucky Inn, Pawling, NY.  She also worked at Data Control Systems in Danbury and retired from the Moseler Safe Company.

She was predeceased by her son, Kerry J. Kane, sister, Ann Dorozenski, and brothers Bill and Pete. Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn Didato and husband Robert of Oxford, CT; son, Peter J. Katsegianes and wife, Georgia(Kalos) of Stone Mountain, Georgia; son, Stratton J. Kane and wife, Janice(Godwin) of Manchester, CT; brother, Kimon Gregory and wife, Carol of Erving, MA; former daughter in law, MaryEllen (Mcquire) Kane Evans and husband, Jim of Bridgewater, CT; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; special godsons, Rev. Fr. Stratton Dorozenski, of Troy, Michigan and Ted Konstantino of Dunedin, FL; and several nieces/nephews.

The Rite of Burial will take place Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church,  30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury with the Rev. Fr. Peter Karloutsos officiating. Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.  The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 15 from 4-8 p.m. at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury. Trisagion Services will take place at the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 p.m.  Memorial donations may be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
