Deacon Hans Jakob Gram

Deacon Hans Jakob Gram of West Redding, CT, a permanent deacon of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport and serving at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ridgefield, entered eternal life on the Feast of Pentecost, Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Danbury Hospital.  He was 69 years of age and the husband of Ingela (Hogberg) Gram.

Hans was born in Oslo, Norway, August 9, 1940, son of Hans Thomas and Anne Kathrine (Munch-Dahl) Gram.  He graduated Commercial College in Oslo, Norway, as well as completed an MBA at C.E.I in Geneva, Switzerland. He was a shipbroker and a CEO with R.S. Platou of Oslo, Norway from 1959 to 1990.

An area resident for the past twenty years coming from Oslo, Hans established the Hanseatic Maritime Company which he operated from 1990 to 2000.

In 2006, Deacon Gram became a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Bridgeport and a trustee of Sacred Heart University.  He was also knighted into the Order of the Holy Sepulchre.

In 2007, Deacon Gram was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Sacred Heart University.

In addition to his wife of forty years, he is survived by two sons, Thomas E. Gram and his wife, Brigitte of Redding and Jacob M. Gram and his wife, Katherine of Denver, CO; two daughters, Karin M. Longo and her husband, Thomas of Mystic, CT and Cecelia B. Klember and her husband, Joseph of Tolland, CT and twelve grandchildren.

Deacon Gram’s body will be received at St. Mary Church on Wednesday at 4PM. and will repose until 9PM.

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 27th at 10:15 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, Ridgefield.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

The family has requested that contributions be made to Sacred Heart University, with the attention of the Hans Gram Student Scholarship Endowment Fund, 5151 Park Avenue, Fairfield, CT  06825.
