RITA (D’ACUNTO) DIMEGLIO

RITA (D’ACUNTO) DIMEGLIO, 67 of Port Charlotte, FL formerly of Ridgefield, CT died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer on January 22, 2010. She was born in Ischia, Italy on September 20, 1942 and was the daughter of the late Luigi D’Acunto and Francesca (DiIorio) D’Acunto. She came to the United States when she was 15 years old with her three sisters and her father. Two sisters, her brother and her mother were here waiting for them and they settled in Norwalk, CT. When she first arrived in the United States, she worked at Supreme Slipper in Norwalk, CT; after she married she then became a Homemaker to raise her four children. She later returned back to work to Digitech Data Industries in Ridgefield, CT until they closed. The last position she held was as a Paraprofessional in the Ridgefield Public School System at Scotland School, where she really found her passion; working with children. Rita was an excellent cook. It brought her great joy, especially when she cooked for her family and friends. She also was an avid, self-taught photographer and was always known to have her camera with her at any occasion. She received her GED in her 40’s and then later went on to further her education at Norwalk Community College where she made the Dean’s list. Rita loved living in Ridgefield. She loved its ruralness and quaintness and had many friends there. In October, 2004 after living in Ridgefield for 31 years, she and her husband, Antonio DiMeglio decided to retire to a beautiful waterfront home in Florida where they both loved living just as much. Her favorite thing about retirement was to wake up and watch the sunrise over the water, watch the fish jump out of the water and then sit in the evenings and watch the beautiful sunsets glisten off the water. She really loved the sun, warmth and peace that Florida offered.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Antonio DiMeglio and their two sons, Luigi and his wife, Marisa DiMeglio of Ridgefield, CT and Tony and his wife, Olga DiMeglio of Weston, CT; and their two daughters, Angela and her husband, Nick Canova of Avon, CT and Franca and her husband, Dean Lotufo of Coto De Caza, CA. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren Anthony, Michael and Gabriella DiMeglio, Mia and Thomas DiMeglio, Julia and Marisa Canova and Alexa and Mitchell Lotufo.

She was predeceased by her brother, Philip D’Acunto. She is survived by her five sisters Angela and her husband, Anthony Tucciarone of Wilton, CT; Maria Lostumbo of Norwalk, CT; Ida Everson of Wilton, CT; Assunta “Sue” and her husband, Noel Snell of Port Charlotte, FL and Seymour, CT and Lidia Patton of Norwalk, CT and many, many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 10:15am in St. Mary’s Church, Ridgefield.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Wednesday from 4PM to 8PM.
