Jacob A. Curnal

Jacob A. Curnal, 85, of Sandy Hook, CT, husband of Virginia (Cosich) Curnal died on Wednesday morning, March 31, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Curnal was born in Hoboken, NJ, son of the late Antonio and Julia (Clisura) Curnal and was raised in Jersey City. He attended local schools and graduated from Dickinson High School. He also attended Newark College of Engineering.
A World War II U.S Navy veteran, he served with the Seabees.

He later was recruited by the Major League Baseball Association and played for the Chicago Cubs.

Later, he was employed by Pfaff and Kendall of Newark, NJ as their plant manager for thirty eight years.

As a New Jersey resident, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Exchange Club and Rotary.  He was active with the Union Little League as well as the Teener League. He was a former member of the Holy Spirit Church of Union.

He enjoyed golf, horseracing, and trips to Las Vegas.

In addition to his wife of fifty-seven years, he is survived by a son, James A. Curnal and his wife, Virginia and a daughter, Lisa Eckstrom and her husband, Craig;  five grandchildren, Ryan and Caroline Curnal and Christopher, Eric and Lauren Eckstrom and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 6th at 10am in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield with the Rev, Joseph Prince officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield at the direction of the family.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Monday from 5PM to 8PM.
