Thomas Joseph Carmody

Thomas Joseph. Carmody, 67, lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, November 21, 2010, with his family by his side in Lewes, DE.

Tom was born January 14, 1943, in Mt. Vernon, New York to Joseph and Cecelia Carmody.   

He graduated from AB Davis High School in Mount Vernon in 1961.  Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the US Newport News from 1961 through 1963.

Tom graduated from Iona College in 1969 with a BBA in Accounting.  From there he worked in various management accounting positions with the Welsbock Corp. in Greenwich, CT.   He started his professional career at Arthur Anderson & Co. in New York City and worked there from 1969-1973.  In 1977, he worked with the mining great, AMAX, Inc., where he held various Accounting management positions.  From there he went to work for Climax Metals, their international metals division as Vice President of Finance.

In 1994 AMAX was acquired, and the job search ultimately took Tom to Atlanta, GA.  This led him to employment with the Archdiocese of Atlanta.  His last two positions before retirement included Director of RCIA  (The Rite of Christian Initiation) and Director of Adult Enrichment for Holy Family Catholic Church in Marietta, GA.  He concluded his financial career as Finance Manager for St. Ann’s Parish also in Marietta.  Working for the Church turned out to be the most fulfilling jobs of his entire career.

Tom was an avid music buff and enjoyed such varieties as Jazz and Blues.  His main hobby in recent years was researching family ancestry. 

Tom was a life-long active member of the Catholic Church, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1987.

Tom is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 44 years, Joan (O’Connor) Carmody, their son Scott and wife Kimberly (Cossett) Carmody, daughter Jennifer and husband Jason Stewart, and daughter Kathryn.  Tom is also survived by his three sisters, Patricia, Mary and Kathryn, and their husbands Timothy Gleeson, Frank DeMartino and Richard Myrdal.

Tom is predeceased by his son Stephen Thomas Carmody, his beloved grandmother, Johanna (Cleary) Williams, and his parents, Joseph and Cecelia (Williams) Carmody,

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 29th at 10:15 am in St. Mary Church, Ridgefield, CT

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Sunday, November 28th from 4PM to 8PM.
